For those who are looking to head to the colder regions of the rainforest (relatively speaking!), we are going to shed light on the Chachapoyas.

This particular region is located on the northern side of the country and is also home to ancient ruins and natural sights.

We like this city because it’s close to the Amazon rainforest and also lets tourists see other natural elements in the area.

Central Selva

If you are going to be in Lima then the best option to see the Amazon rainforest in Peru is going to be through Central Selva.

this is going to be a good connecting point as you will get to see the jungle in full flight along with the infrastructure being more in line with what you want. This is ideal for those who are newer to the area and just want a simpler trip out to the Amazon.

Manu National Park

If you are going to be in this part of the nation, you are going to have to put the Manu National Park on your list of places to see.

It is a heritage site and one of the most important parts of Peru.

We adore this region and list it as a must-see spot if you are in Cusco. It is simply outstanding because you are going to be in a national park that offers access to tremendous wildlife, plants, and more.

It is compact, beautiful, and ideal for those who are going through the area with a local guide. We loved doing this and it was a lot of fun!

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

Most tourists are going to have this reserve on their itinerary because it’s world-famous and offers a slew of things to see.

You are going to get to explore the region including the nearby city. This allows you to settle in, mingle with the locals, and then also visit the rainforest for a camping trip. This will depend on how you want to explore the reserve as some will only want to visit for a day.

Things To Do In The Amazon

See The Wildlife

Let’s be honest, this is going to be one of the biggest reasons for checking out the rainforest in Peru. You are going to have heard about the animals in this part of the world and you are going to want to get a peek of them in action.

We wanted to do the same.

This is where the Amazon shines because the wildlife is everywhere. You are going to get to see magical birds, insects, reptiles, and more when you are here and they are going to be co-existing in one habitat.

We had a guide that helped us with a tour of the Amazon to see the wildlife and it was a boatload of fun. You are not going to get to see this many animals in one place than when you are in the Amazon.

It was a riveting experience and we saw hundreds of birds when we were here along with snakes and more. It was enthralling!

Visit The Villages

I know you are going to be surprised but this was one of the more unique experiences we had and it was worth it.

We recommend stopping by one of the local villages and exploring them. You are going to get to meet with the locals and it’s best to go with a guide to ensure things go as smoothly as you want. They will often host tourists and celebrate with them too.

We loved this part of being in the village and it was a lot of fun.

Boating In The River

If you are up for something more adventurous then it’s time to make things interesting.

This is going to be by heading to the river.

You are going to have companies that will have boats set up for you to go down the river and have a unique view of the Amazon. It is going to give you goosebumps and it is one of those experiences you are never going to forget!

This is a great way to see the wildlife and also feel like you are right in the middle of things.

What To Expect In The Amazon

Let’s assume you are going to be camping in the Amazon or hiking one of its trails.

What is the setting going to be like?

Well, it’s going to be humid and it’s going to feel like you are right in the thick of things. We loved this atmosphere but you are going to want to be prepared for it.

This includes realizing you are not going to have the regular amenities you are used to outdoors.

You are going to have numerous mosquitoes and insects all around you. This is going to be annoying in the beginning but you are going to get used to it. Remember, this is the jungle so the wildlife is going to be all over the place.

We would recommend preparing for the insects with a repellent and also making sure you are wearing appropriate clothing. This includes boots to ensure you can walk around without having to worry about getting something stuck on your foot!

You should also prepare for the heat. This means wearing clothing that will allow you to handle the sweat but also protect your skin.
