Arc De Triomphe – Famous Paris Roundabout (Tourist Guide)

Arc De Triomphe – Famous Paris Roundabout (Tourist Guide)

While sitting in a historic cafe in Paris, we took the time to begin fleshing out a comprehensive trip itinerary for our time in Paris.

We wanted to explore the ins and outs of this beautiful city including visiting the main tourist attractions such as Disneyland Paris.

One of those attractions was none other than the popular Arc de Triomphe.

Some people state Paris is an unclean city but we disagree. It’s a beautiful city that is full of quality restaurants, attractions, and other important landmarks. This is why our attention went to the beautiful Arc de Triomphe to go see it in person.

Situated at the Champs Elysees, this is one of the most revered attractions in the nation let alone Paris. You are going to adore the charm of this beautiful place.

Created in the 1800s, this has been around for a long time and is now a historic part of the city. It’s commonly visited by tourists from around the world and it is highly recommended to spend time on this Paris street because of how gorgeous it is.

Let’s take a look at what you need to know about this famous monument in Paris.

Napoleon never saw it finished as he died in 1821 and it was completed in 1836.

Our Experience With The Arc de Triomphe In Paris

It’s important to talk about the roundabout surrounding the monument because it plays an integral role in how you experience the attraction.

It is constantly busy here.

There are tourists and the number of cars whizzing by can be disconcerting for those who are used to a more relaxed or toned-down experience on the road. You are not going to get that here and you need to be ready for this as a tourist.

So, how is the roundabout at the Arc de Triomphe designed?

It’s designed to have ten lanes that are working in unison as the traffic flows in. As you can imagine, this is not easy to coordinate for those who have never been in the area including drivers in Paris. You often see people cutting and doing their own thing when they are driving through this roundabout!

If you are going to be driving to the Arc de Triomphe then we highly recommend taking the time to practice your defensive driving and be willing to adjust on the road. This is the only way to make sure you don’t get into an accident!

You are going to be dealing with aggressive drivers in Paris and that is often going to come to a head when you are here. If you are mentally prepared for this, you are going to be fine.

Going To The Arc de Triomphe

When we got to the Arc de Triomphe, it was time to begin focusing on the monument itself.

We had macarons from a Paris cafe in hand and it was time to begin making the most of the attraction including buying a ticket to get admitted.

We highly recommend going to the top as that is how you will get to view the roundabout and the area around the monument from a higher vantage point. It’s well worth it and we believe it’s best to go earlier in the day to ensure you find a spot.

Please note that the Arc de Triomphe is 164 feet tall, which means it’s going to be high up in the air. You are going to get an impressive view from the top and that is what makes it worth it for the average tourist coming to Paris.

Expats living in France often mention the beauty from the top and how it will change your perspective of this major city.

It’s also essential to be careful when you are walking around. We have seen people attempt to dart around on their feet while going to the Arc de Triomphe and that is how you are going to endanger yourself.

Do not do this!

We also believe it’s best to take a look at getting a reserved ticket to get to the top. These are sold for a set price online and you should be able to save quite a bit of time by getting one of these tickets.

On busier days, this is going to be useful and is going to save you a lot of time. Do not underestimate how important this can be for those who want to make sure they are getting to go through their Paris itinerary on time.

Final Thoughts

This is what you need to know about the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

It is one of the most charming tourist attractions in the city and one you are going to want to include in your trip plans. Just like you are going to want to check out the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the same is going to apply to those who come to Paris.

It’s a fascinating attraction and the busy nature of the roundabout is going to be a new thing for you too!
