The Empire State Building is often noted as being one of the premier tourist attractions in NYC.
It’s similar to visiting Central Park in New York City.
There is a sense of glamor and charm associated with it that’s hard to miss. Most people coming to this part of New York will want to visit the Empire State Building at least once.
However, we have been in the city multiple times and want to take a look at whether or not it’s worth it as a tourist.
Should you be making this a part of your itinerary?
We have explored a variety of places in the region including beautiful natural settings in NYC. We are well aware of what’s worth it and what’s not.
Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of visiting the Empire State Building in New York City.
How To Visit The Empire State Building
Planning to go to the Empire State Building is not too difficult.
We found it to be relatively easy.
The address is 20 W. 34th Street.
It’s noticeable as you are going to see this large building from far away. After all, it’s a masterpiece when it comes to architectural design and the heart of NYC.
We took the subway out to the area, which means we took the 3 train, but this will depend on where you are coming from. You are going to get to the Heral Square stop and then walk from there. It does not take long.
You can go to the tourist attraction throughout the year as it is open from 8 AM to 2 AM. This means it’s open almost the entire day even on the holidays. This makes it easy for you to plan to spend a bit of time in the building whenever you are free to do so.
We would recommend heading to the observatory after you get the tickets. This is going to take you to the 86th floor, which is quite beautiful to look out from. It’s going to provide an elegant, breathtaking view of the city.
Our Experience At The Empire State Building
You will be wondering about our trip to the Empire State Building in NYC and how it turned out.
For the most part, as soon as you get to the building, you are going to get the tickets. At this point, you are going to take the elevator to the top. It is similar to any other building you have ever been in. It’s going to take you to the floor that you need to go to.
In our case, we went to the observation deck.
All we can say is, the view was stunning!
The view is exceptional and we went on a clear day when the sun was out. We could see for miles and it was simply outstanding and unforgettable. We realized why people came here as soon as we were on the observation deck.
The security is airtight.
This means they are going to be looking at everything and it’s all serious as soon as you enter. They do not take this bit lightly due to the nature of NYC’s past along with how integral this attraction is for the region.
A lot of people come here and everyone goes through the same checks.
You cannot take things such as large cameras, alcohol, glass, and a wide array of other items that are listed at the entrance. It’s best not to bring anything cumbersome because it’s going to be taken away from you anyway!
Busy On The Weekends
We would recommend going on a weekday.
We went on a Saturday and it was packed. A lot of people come to the Empire State Building on the weekend because it’s their day off. This not only includes tourists but locals who are also sightseeing in the area.
This means you are going to get caught up in this rush and it’s not as appealing.
We know most people don’t want to wait around, so coming when it’s later in the night is the best way to go or early in the morning.
This means right when it opens or right before it’s going to close. This is going to ensure you are not going to be dealing with as many people here. Of course, if it is a holiday, you are going to be inundated with the number of people around you!
This is often the case in most parts of NYC.
The 102nd Floor
Most people are going to visit the observation deck, spend an hour, and then come down.
We wanted to go to the next step and go higher.
This is available as long as you are paying the ticket for the upgrade. We did this as we wanted to mix things up a bit.
In our eyes, it was pretty much the same view.
We would not upgrade to this ticket as it is not worth it. Some might prefer the view but the 86th floor gets the job done in our opinion. Of course, this is subjective!
We do feel it’s worth going to the Empire State Building in New York City.
It’s one of the main reasons to go to New York.
Whether you are going to New York in the fall or in the winter, this is one spot you are going to want to check out. It’s in the heart of the city and a joy to be around.
