Is Santa Monica Expensive? (Local Guide)

We have explored Malibu in California and rode bikes at Venice Beach, but what about the beautiful Santa Monica?

Santa Monica Pier is one of our favorite tourist attractions.

It’s iconic, beautiful, and just has the ambiance you’re looking for as a tourist. However, what about living in Santa Monica and whether or not it’s expensive?

We have taken the time to speak to the locals in the area to learn more about the region.

We are going to look at this from the local perspective while also shedding light on how tourists feel about Santa Monica.

How Expensive Is Santa Monica?

Santa Monica is expensive. It’s one of the most expensive regions in California.

Research shows, that Santa Monica is 200+% more expensive than other regions in America. This means you are going to be paying a hefty price if you want to buy a house here.

It’s also expensive when it comes to various amenities. Almost everything you are going to buy here is going to be pricier and that’s the cost of living in such a desirable place.

Reasons Santa Monica Is Expensive

Beautiful Weather

It’s going to start with one of the main factors for people moving to California in the first place. Being able to sit close to the beachfront is always enticing and that’s what people mention when they move to a place like Santa Monica.

We talked to the locals and they find the weather to be impressive.

It’s warm, beautiful, and calm.

What more are you going to want when it comes to your place of residence? The same goes for tourists that come to the area because the weather is pleasant, it makes sitting on the beach a delightful experience.

When you take the time to head to the beach on a sunny day, you are going to begin to understand why this is one of the most beautiful parts of the state.

It’s calm, charming, and just elegant.

You are going to love going to the Santa Monica Pier, enjoying the various attractions, and having a good time. We always go to that area because it’s fun. However, it is also expensive because so many people come to the area whether they are locals or tourists.

You are going to have to be prepped for this.

Lots Of Jobs

There are lots of jobs.

This is one of the biggest challenges a person is going to have to deal with when it comes to more affordable cities in the state or elsewhere. You are not going to have as many job opportunities and that is a major concern for those who are not 100% remote.

If you are looking for a job, you are going to want to be here.

This is a major attraction for those who are looking to find a new place to move to.

Cultural Hub

This is one element we didn’t realize was important until we took the time to speak to the locals. It was obvious there was a cultural element at play too.

The people here are laidback and this is calming for the average person.

Tourists also notice this but that also makes it a desirable place to be. You are going to adore being here and that’s what is going to draw you in.

You are going to enjoy this cultural hub and all that comes along with it.

This is a gorgeous place and the culture is vibrant. It makes you want to stay.

Let’s assume you are thinking about moving to Santa Monica with your kids.

Is this a good place to raise your family?

Yes, we think it is quite safe here, and that affluence is going to shine through when you want to raise your kids in a safe space. This is where Santa Monica is going to do well and it’s going to intrigue you as a person that is budgeting for a move.

We loved this element as tourists too.

The safety is remarkable and you are going to feel good wherever you are including when you head out at night.
