We have talked about moving to Fiji in the past, but now it’s time to look at one of the most beautiful parts of the nation.
Mount Tomanivi is a fascinating mountain.
It’s one of those sights that will take your breath away because it’s situated in Viti Levu and is renowned for being a gorgeous hiking spot. When the weather is good, you are going to have a lovely time here and we do recommend giving it a try for those who love hiking in the mountains.
Hiking Mount Tomanivi is one of those experiences you are not going to forget easily!
Since it soars up to 4,343 feet, it is a tall one.
The view you are going to get from the top is simply breathtaking. This is why it’s the tallest mountain in Fiji and a great spot for hikers.
Hiking Mount Tomanivi in Fiji
If you are thinking about hiking at Mt Tomanivi, we would take the time to plan each step.
The reason we say this is due to how difficult the hike is. This is not for beginners. You are going to have to be someone who has hiked in similar circumstances before because this is for those who can handle the physical exertion involved with a hike such as this one.
It is 2.8 miles long and it is going to take almost five hours to complete.
As you can imagine, this is going to be a proper challenge for those who want to get to the peak of the awesome view.

Our Experience At Mount Tomanivi
Let’s take a look at our experience.
When starting the hike at Mount Tomanivi, it’s essential to get to the main starting point. This is going to be in Navai. You are going to want to get to the starting point and make sure the hike can begin safely.
It’s located at the Tomainivi Nature Reserve, which makes it a beautiful spot to start.
We had a lovely time observing the various natural elements inside the reserve. This is a part of the experience and it’s something you are going to enjoy if you are an animal lover. We do enjoy being able to spot the wildlife, so it was a lot of fun while we were here.
On the day of the hike, we took the time to start working on preparations. This included having the right hiking boots, clean clothing, and of course water.
You need to be prepared for this because a five-hour hike is going to take a toll on you even if you are remarkably fit.
Going up was a difficult task but it was worth it.
We took the time to map out a complete route and go through the hike patiently.
This is essential when you are starting in Navai. You are going to need a local guide to take you along for the hike. This is important because it’s the only way to manage the route and ensure you are making safe choices along the way.
The guide is going to be affordable and an integral part of the experience. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions as they are trained for this!
We paid $25 to our guide and moved forward with the experience. He was an experienced local guide who had done this for over 10+ years.
When you begin to start the ascent, you are going to notice how challenging it’s going to be. Most people are going to start fatiguing within 10-15 minutes because of the ascent. This is natural and you are going to want to pace yourself.
When we went, the conditions were pretty stable.
It was just the steepness that was doing a number on us as hikers. Although, we have been doing this for a while and were able to adjust along the way.
At the time, we went with a group of hikers. This made it easier to rely on each other for assistance to make sure we were pushing each other to keep going.
When we got to the top, it was simply outstanding!
The natural beauty took our breath away because we were going to be able to see it all in front of us. It’s the highest point in the region, so you are going to get a comprehensive vantage point from the top.
Final Thoughts
This is what you have to consider when hiking Mt Tomanivi in Fiji.
