Climbing The Eiffel Tower – How Many Steps Are In The Eiffel Tower?

As you adventure around the streets of Paris, you are always going to come back to the magnificent Eiffel Tower.

This is a busy European city with so much to do, but the Eiffel Tower continues to win the hearts of tourists and locals.

We took an Uber in Paris straight to the Eiffel Tower to climb it.

Most people don’t know but you can climb the steps in the Eiffel Tower to get to the top. This is a fascinating experience and it’s something you might want to try.

The reason we wanted to try it comes down to how historic those steps are.

They have been present since day one, so you are going to get to experience something the original visitors got to experience, which is always outstanding. You are going to have a lovely time ascending these stairs in the Eiffel Tower.

Most people are going to wonder about the number of steps in the Eiffel Tower and we are going to share this information here.

Total Number Of Steps In The Eiffel Tower

Let’s begin with the steps.

There are 1,665 steps in the Eiffel Tower.

It’s important to note that you are not going to have access to all of them. Instead, visitors are only permitted to use 674 steps in the Eiffel Tower, which is going to take you to the second floor.

The reason for this has to do with the changes that have been made to the steps over the years. This ensures visitors are not cramped and put into uncomfortable positions when they are going up. These changes have made it pleasant to go to the second floor using the stairs.

We do recommend doing it.

It’s also key to understand there was a spiral staircase in the Eiffel Tower, which is not there any longer. This particular part of the tower can still be viewed if you go inside the tower.

So, what happens once you are on the second floor and the steps finish?

You are now going to take the elevator to the top.

Time To Climb The Steps In The Eiffel Tower

The amount of time it takes to climb the Eiffel Tower steps is going to vary depending on your speed and how busy it is.

For us, it took around 20 minutes to climb to the second floor.

Some people will be able to get it done in a shorter period.

Admission Fee

If you are ready to get started and want to climb the stairs, you are going to have to get stair-specific tickets at the Eiffel Tower.

These are going to have a set fee based on your age.

Take the time to get these and then head to the Eiffel Tower. We took the time to buy them online, but you can also go to the ticket office if you like. There is no other way of accessing the stairs in the Eiffel Tower if that is what you wish to do at the tourist attraction.

Are The Stairs In The Eiffel Tower Worth It?

We know you are going to be wondering about the benefits of going up this way. Is it worth it?

We felt it was okay because we are seasoned travelers. We have been doing odd things forever and that includes getting into cramped spaces or trying new methods of climbing attractions.

This is why the stairs didn’t put us off too much.

However, a person who has kids is not going to want to go up this route. It’s going to be too challenging for the younger kids.

It’s better to take the elevator.

For adults, it’s okay to climb the stairs but keep the heavier items at home. You don’t want too much weight on your body while climbing the steps. We would also wear comfortable footwear or you are going to be dealing with foot pain.

You have to make sure to be aware of your physical fitness.

If you are older and/or have joint pain, this is not the right way to go up the Eiffel Tower. It’s not going to bode well for your body because it’s going to be difficult to handle. We have seen people slow down and take up to 30 minutes to climb the steps.

This is not worth the hassle nor is it going to be as meaningful as you want it to be when you’re going that slowly!

It’s better to enjoy the view from the top rather than spend so much time climbing the steps.

It’s also smart to make sure you are aware of when you are going to the Eiffel Tower. If you are going during non-peak hours, it might be worth climbing the stairs more than when it’s busy. Otherwise, you are just going to want to get to the top whenever you can using the elevator.

For us, it was worth it but this is not the only way to experience the attraction.

If you want to take the elevator, it’s the right way to go up.

Final Thoughts

This is how many steps are in the Eiffel Tower.

We recommend going to the attraction because it’s a major part of the city. It’s what most people go to the region to see.

Take the time to go to the top whether you are using the elevator or steps.
